Position Description

The Fundraising and Events Manager will support the Development Department and the broader organization through cultivating, nurturing, and managing fundraising events, donor partnerships, and community impact activities which support APIE’s mission of “providing college and career readiness support through individualized academic and mentoring programs to prepare students for success”.   In doing so, they will gain valuable experience in a nonprofit environment focused on promoting academic success for students in underserved communities.  The Fundraising and Events Manager’s three core areas of work include: Event Oversight, Corporate Giving, and Individual Giving.

Event Oversight:

  • Assume primary logistical and programmatic planning oversight of APIE’S three fundraising events: Austin Marathon, Salute, 20 year signature event
  • Partner with outside vendors, venues, and partners as required in order to execute events
  • Manage donor-related components at  APIE’S three fundraising events:  Austin Marathon, Salute, 20 year signature event

Corporate Giving:

  • Manage corporate revenue goals for both unrestricted operating revenue and sponsorship opportunities
  • Maintain and grow an active portfolio of current and prospective corporate supporters and act as primary relationship manager. 
  • Develop sponsorship benefits and packages, as well as other ancillary materials for  APIE’S three fundraising events:  Austin Marathon, Salute, 20 year signature event.
  • Create sponsorship and non-sponsorship proposals, budgets and reports with the Development Director and track in Salesforce.
  • Research and cultivate new corporate funding sources and create corresponding cultivation, solicitation and stewardship plans.

Individual Giving:

  • Manage individual-related revenue goals
  • Revisit current individual giving and make recommendations to the Development Director for improvement in the areas of acquisition strategy, cultivation and stewardship (such as creating named giving levels).
  • Develop sponsorship benefits and packages as needed, as well as other ancillary materials for APIE fundraising 
  • Create sponsorship and non-sponsorship proposals, budgets and reports with the Development Director and track in database.
  • Systems and process management skills sufficient to manage a complex mix of revenue generating activities.

 

Under the supervision of the Development Director, the Fundraising and Events Manager will also be expected to:

  • Maintain a commitment to APIE’s guiding principles and approach the work with a commitment to equity
  • Attend workplace giving fairs and other donor solicitation events
  • Communicate professionally with donors and stakeholders
  • Research and pursue individual and business funding opportunities to support APIE’s programs
  • Draft letters of interest and other development correspondence
  • Complete other duties as assigned

 

 Skill Requirements
  • Interest in improving academic achievement for students in underserved communities
  • 2-5 years of experience in one or more of the following: events management, education, non-profit development, fundraising
  • Understanding of how to coordinate, plan, and execute fundraising and community events
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong ability to multitask and work independently to meet goals and deadlines
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to be highly impactful and nurture relationships, even when working remotely
  • Capacity and interest in data management/donor management, as directed by the Development Director
  • A respectful, inclusive and collaborative approach to fostering partnerships with diverse stakeholders, both internal and external 
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Understands and values Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) as an organizational operating principle and is committed to continued learning and participation in issues related to DEIB.

 

Education and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, non-profit management, education, social work, public administration, or other relevant fields preferred. Equivalent professional experience may be acceptable in lieu of degree, context dependent.
  • Minimum 2-5 years of work experience in one (or more) of the above fields required

 

Starting Salary: $60,000, dependent on experience

Austin Partners in Education (APIE) is looking for motivated, student-centered individuals to join our College Readiness team for the 2023-2024 school year. There are full-time and part-time contract positions available. Contract Date: July 31, 2023 – May 24, 2024

APIE’s College Readiness Advocates prepare students to meet academic college-readiness benchmarks outlined by the Texas Success Initiative through individualized and small group tutoring in reading, writing, and math. Advocates also advise their students on college and career pathways and support their students in developing the non-academic skills necessary for a successful postsecondary experience.

This position is ideal for an individual interested in pursuing a career in the education, social work, and/or nonprofit sectors. In addition to managing a tutoring caseload, CR Advocates will gain experience in creating and maintaining strategic partnerships, effectively managing competing priorities, and developing strong communication skills.

Hourly Rate:

$21.00

Characteristic Duties / Responsibilities: 
  • Lead small class instruction and/or provide small group, in class support as assigned
  • Manage a tutoring caseload of up to 70 students
  • Effectively track student attendance, academic progress, and student engagement
  • Create and foster effective relationships with students and campus staff
  • Collaborate with APIE team leaders and AISD campus staff to increase student attainment of college ready status per the Texas Success Initiative
  • Work with program supervisors to determine students’ academic needs and preparedness for the TSI Assessment
  • Advise students regarding college readiness standards
  • Complete other job duties as assigned
Qualifications / Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, or related field
  • Experience tutoring and/or mentoring middle or high school students required
  • Valid government issued ID and access to reliable transportation
  • Must be available to work 20-40 hours a week Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm during the length of the contract
  • Spanish fluency a plus
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
  • Prior experience in secondary education
  • Comfortable tutoring high school math and English
  • Strong organizational skills and flexibility
  • Effective communication skills; verbal and written
  • Strong tenacity and problem-solving ability
  • Ability to foster and grow relationships with high school students
  • Must bring a Diversity Equity Inclusion Belonging (DEIB) lens to work with students, faculty, and APIE staff and a willingness to learn and participate in organization-wide diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging commitment
