Cathy joined APIE in 2012 and is an experienced teacher, campus administrator & assistant superintendent. With a Ph.D. in educational administration through UT’s Cooperative Superintendency Program, she is a true Longhorn. Cathy has 2 children and enjoys running & cycling. Being a Math Classroom Coach is her weekly highlight.
Veronica joined APIE in 2010 after serving as Director of Academic Advising and Student Success at Laredo Community College. She enjoys spending time with family, reading, and watching great movies.
Barbette joined the APIE Finance team in 2011. She has an MBA from UT Austin and many years of experience in the management of financial and administrative functions for nonprofits. She loves watching Longhorn football, ballet, and Broadway shows.
Wendi joined APIE in 2016 with extensive nonprofit development experience in education and an MBA from George Washington University. Originally from Washington, DC, she enjoys the outdoors, food, travel, and her miniature dachshunds.
Frances joined APIE in 2014 as a College Readiness Advocate. She is a City Year San Antonio and AmeriCorps NCCC alum. She enjoys traveling, watching reality tv, and learning about all-things Salesforce.

For over 10 years, Sandy has worked in multiple APIE programs. She believes that volunteers are extraordinary people and feels privileged to work with those committed to supporting our schools.
College Readiness Coordinator
Caleb joined APIE in 2018 after working as an Academic Director in New York City. He enjoys spending time with family, playing squash, and of course, talking about Math!
Career Mentoring & Exploration Specialist
Paige has a master’s degree in Organizational Leadership and Ethics from St. Edward’s University. She has also worked in our College Readiness and Recruitment departments. She loves to play with her two young sons, reading, and yoga.
Chris joined APIE in 2017 and is responsible for the configuration, support, and improvement of our Salesforce database. He enjoys spending time reading, cooking, hiking, and hanging out with his kids.
School Connections Manager
After her years in politics, development and teaching, Dawn Lewis landed at APIE in 2011. She absolutely loves Florida State football, jogging, reading and of course, working with children.
Brianna joined APIE in 2019. Her previous experience was in banking and finance. She is passionate about people and enjoys helping others. She loves reading, listening to podcasts, and cleaning.

Amy joined APIE back in 2009. She loves working with middle school students, teachers and volunteers. She enjoys running, reading, traveling, and spending time with her kids in her free time.

Ritchie joined APIE in 2018 as a CR Advocate with experience in supporting diverse populations of students. He enjoys physical recreation, trying new food, traveling, fictional stories, and podcasts.
Communications and Volunteer Recruitment Coordinator
Ashley joined APIE in 2019 after completing her master’s degree in journalism at Baylor University. She is an AmeriCorps VISTA alum and worked previously at the Texas Hunger Initiative.
Joe joined APIE in July 2018 as an AmeriCorps VISTA. He enjoys seeing live music, running, and playing the guitar.
Research and Project Manager
Mary joined APIE in 2020 after completing a master’s degree in public affairs from the University of Texas at Austin. Her previous work includes college advisement and program management. Mary spends her free time visiting flea markets, exploring new hiking trails, and looking for the best cup of coffee and croissants in town.
