A+ Federal Credit Union is a longstanding champion of Austin Partners in Education, and we’re honored that they have sponsored our 2024 Austin Marathon campaign at the Sprinter Level for $5,000. For the past several years, more than 15 A+FCU staff members have joined us at our Marathon aid station to keep the runners hydrated and cheer them on during the race. In addition, they have been long time funders of Salute, Austin ISD’s annual celebration of the district’s outstanding team members, which APIE co-hosts. A+FCU’s President/CEO Eric R. Kase joined the APIE Board of Directors in 2021. In this special guest blog post, A+FCU shares more about their additional initiatives and community work that support education and local students.

A+ Federal Credit Union was founded by a group of like-minded teachers in 1949 and has been a pillar in the education community since, not just by creating a not-for-profit financial cooperative with educators in mind, but also by supporting them through specially designed programs.

A+FCU prides itself in promoting financial wellness and equipping teachers with free, fun, and engaging resources and programs to help cover financial literacy standards. A+FCU staff deliver presentations, facilitate in-school deposits for Green Apple account holders, and volunteer at school functions, such as career days and FAFSA nights.

The A+FCU Community Education team also hosts Mad City Money events, a 2–3-hour hands-on simulation that gives middle and high school students a taste of the real world—complete with occupation, spouse, debt, and medical insurance payments.

In addition to working closely with schools, A+FCU partners with organizations, such as Boy Scouts of America Capitol Area Council (BSACAC) and Girl Scouts of Central Texas (GSCTX), to help Scouts earn financial literacy badges and patches.

During the summer, A+FCU hosts Youth Financial Camps and High School Financial Boot Camps. These free camps give kids and teens an opportunity to learn about topics such as budgeting, credit, investing, paying for college, and more.

Plus, as part of their mission of building stronger communities, A+FCU invests in students and educators. Each year, A+FCU generously awards $2,000 scholarships to eligible high school seniors and college students.

Through its philanthropic arm, the A+ Education Foundation, educators can apply for grants of up to $2,000 for school or classroom needs, including supplies, materials, and training. Since 2005, 1,278 educators have been awarded over $1.3 million.

A+FCU is excited to celebrate 75 years of supporting members and the local community and looks forward to what’s to come. If you’d like to learn more about the financial education offered by A+FCU, please click this link: Contact Community Education Team.
