APIE volunteer registration for Math Classroom Coaching and Mentoring opens in August 2024.
Both programs close in early March. This provides students with consistency, so they have a higher number of sessions with the same volunteer.

Math Classroom Coaching program: we currently support middle school math classes at four Austin ISD campuses.
APIE Mentor program: We serve middle and high school students. Historically, our Mentoring program has supported all Austin ISD students from kindergarten through 12th grade. However, beginning in the 2020-21 school year, we have transitioned to 6th through 12th grades.

Our programs takes place during the school day. We do not have campus volunteer opportunities after school or on the weekends.
Math Classroom Coaching: Classes take place in the mornings and afternoons during math class. Volunteers are able to choose the class time that works best with their schedule. See days and times here.
Secondary Mentoring: sessions usually take place during the student’s lunch time or advisory/homeroom period. These times will vary depending on the campus.
No, we are unable to provide our volunteers with transportation to and from Austin ISD campuses.
After signing up to volunteer, you will receive an email to attend a Math Coaching training or New Mentor orientation.
APIE Math Classroom Coaching: After completing training, Math Classroom Coaches will begin volunteering. They will receive weekly communication from their Math Classroom Coaching Coordinator.
APIE Mentor Program: After attending the orientation, mentors will be connected with the Mentor Coordinator at their selected school. The coordinator will determine which student to pair with you and schedule the first mentor session.
Yes, you will need to sign up each year for APIE’s Math Classroom Coaching and Mentoring opportunities.
APIE Mentor Program: Once volunteers begins mentoring, they need to continue until the end of school year to provide consistency for students
APIE Math Classroom Coaching Program: We prefer that Math Classroom Coaches commit to an entire school year. However, if a Math Classroom Coach can only commit to one semester (fall or spring), please sign up anyway!s

For twenty years, Austin Partners in Education collaborated with Austin ISD to processes over 59,000 criminal background checks for dedicated volunteers who made a positive impact on our school community. Beginning in July 2024, APIE no longer manages volunteer registration or processes background checks.
We are excited to announce our partnership with Austin ISD to implement a new volunteer management platform at austinisd.voly.org. Please visit this platform to sign up for a background check.

Yes, once a volunteer registers through Voly they will receive an email to complete the background check. APIE will no longer process background checks.
– Parents and community members volunteering for a single school event will not need to receive a JDP background check through Voly; a Raptor background check will suffice.
-All contracted/vendor workers will continue to be required to receive fingerprinting and to submit an EC-1 form.
