Math Classroom Coaches tutor small groups of middle school students once a week during math class. Coaches use teacher-selected assignments to help increase students’ understanding of math and academic self-confidence. Your support can help turn on a light bulb!
Volunteer interactions enhance student academic achievement and contribute to their overall growth as learners. Middle school math students benefit from small group tutoring by:
receiving individualized support
improving their understanding and confidence in math
increasing their engagement and motivation
addressing learning gaps
We welcome volunteers who:
Enjoy math and want to help increase students’ enjoyment
Appreciate the developmental stage of middle school students
Are reliable and can provide consistent support
Are comfortable with 8th grade math, for example
Calculating volume and surface area of prisms, cones and cylinders
Writing linear equations from tables, equations and graphs
Using the Pythagorean Theorem
Note: opportunities also exist to support Algebra I students.
