Dans cet entretien, Khaleghi partage son exp\u00e9rience de mentor aupr\u00e8s de deux \u00e9l\u00e8ves r\u00e9fugi\u00e9s d&#039;Afghanistan.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Q : Parlez-nous un peu de vous.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>UNE:<\/strong>\u00a0Je suis doctorant au d\u00e9partement de g\u00e9nie p\u00e9trolier de l&#039;Universit\u00e9 du Texas. Mon parcours est int\u00e9ressant et me permet de devenir mentor. Je suis n\u00e9 en Iran et j&#039;y ai fait ma licence. J&#039;ai ensuite d\u00e9m\u00e9nag\u00e9 au Canada o\u00f9 j&#039;ai v\u00e9cu 14 ans. Je suis aujourd&#039;hui citoyen irano-canadien. Je cherchais un nouveau d\u00e9fi et j&#039;ai d\u00e9couvert le programme de l&#039;UT, j&#039;ai postul\u00e9 et je suis arriv\u00e9 \u00e0 Austin.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Q : Comment avez-vous d\u00e9couvert le mentorat et qu\u2019est-ce qui vous a donn\u00e9 envie de travailler avec des \u00e9tudiants r\u00e9fugi\u00e9s ?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>UNE: <\/strong>J&#039;ai entendu parler du programme de mentorat pour \u00e9tudiants r\u00e9fugi\u00e9s de l&#039;UT et j&#039;ai appris qu&#039;ils recherchaient des personnes parlant le farsi. En Iran, c&#039;est la langue officielle que tout le monde apprend, m\u00eame les minorit\u00e9s ethniques. En Afghanistan, diff\u00e9rentes minorit\u00e9s ethniques ont leurs propres langues et cultures, mais beaucoup parlent encore le farsi. Le farsi est peut-\u00eatre l\u00e9g\u00e8rement diff\u00e9rent entre Iraniens et Afghans, mais on peut toujours communiquer. C&#039;est comme si on r\u00e9unissait un Britannique et un Am\u00e9ricain\u00a0: certains mots sont diff\u00e9rents, mais on peut quand m\u00eame se comprendre.<\/p>\n<p>La principale raison pour laquelle j&#039;ai voulu devenir mentor \u00e9tait de transmettre. \u00c0 mon arriv\u00e9e au Canada, ma ma\u00eetrise de l&#039;anglais n&#039;\u00e9tait pas aussi bonne qu&#039;aujourd&#039;hui. Apprendre l&#039;anglais m&#039;a ouvert de nombreuses portes. On peut communiquer et tisser des liens beaucoup plus profonds. Je voulais aider les \u00e9tudiants \u00e0 progresser vers ce niveau de ma\u00eetrise.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Q : Parlez-nous de votre exp\u00e9rience de mentorat jusqu\u2019\u00e0 pr\u00e9sent.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>UNE: <\/strong>J&#039;ai commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 travailler avec deux fr\u00e8res \u00e0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.austinisd.org\/schools\/burnet\">\u00c9cole secondaire Burnet<\/a> D\u00e9but octobre 2022. Ils ont deux ans d&#039;\u00e9cart, mais ils sont actuellement dans la m\u00eame classe. Ce sont de tr\u00e8s bons \u00e9l\u00e8ves. J&#039;ai eu de la chance avec eux. Je crois qu&#039;ils sont \u00e0 Austin depuis environ un an, donc ils sont nouveaux dans la r\u00e9gion. Ils viennent tous les deux d&#039;Afghanistan et l&#039;un de leurs principaux centres d&#039;int\u00e9r\u00eat est le football. Ce sont de grands fans de football et ils essaient d&#039;int\u00e9grer l&#039;\u00e9quipe de football de l&#039;\u00e9cole. Je pense que la langue est tr\u00e8s importante pour eux, car ils doivent pouvoir communiquer avec les autres \u00e9l\u00e8ves. C&#039;est l\u00e0-dessus que j&#039;essaie de les aider, pour qu&#039;ils puissent demander une place dans l&#039;\u00e9quipe et s&#039;int\u00e9grer aux autres \u00e9l\u00e8ves.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Q : Quel genre d\u2019activit\u00e9s aimez-vous faire avec vos mentor\u00e9s ? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>UNE: <\/strong>Nous parlons farsi et travaillons l&#039;anglais. J&#039;apprends de nouveaux mots en farsi gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 eux et ils apprennent des mots gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 moi. Nous communiquons assez clairement, mais parfois, c&#039;est \u00ab Oh, vous appelez \u00e7a comme \u00e7a, nous appelons \u00e7a comme \u00e7a. \u00bb J&#039;ai vraiment essay\u00e9 de m&#039;adapter \u00e0 leur dialecte et de trouver du mat\u00e9riel p\u00e9dagogique adapt\u00e9. \u00c7a a \u00e9t\u00e9 une exp\u00e9rience enrichissante pour moi. Nous avons beaucoup parl\u00e9 de la Coupe du monde et des \u00e9quipes dont ils \u00e9taient supporters pendant la comp\u00e9tition.<\/p>\n<p>Parfois, je trouve ces courtes le\u00e7ons de grammaire parce qu&#039;ils ont vraiment besoin d&#039;apprendre les fondamentaux de l&#039;anglais et un peu de vocabulaire. Nous abordons des sujets simples et apprenons quelques mots et la structure grammaticale. J&#039;ai aussi eu la chance de trouver des livres de litt\u00e9rature que les \u00e9coles afghanes enseignaient avant l&#039;arriv\u00e9e au pouvoir du nouveau r\u00e9gime. Je pense que c&#039;est une avanc\u00e9e positive, car ils d\u00e9couvrent des \u00e9l\u00e9ments comme leur hymne national, le drapeau, etc. C&#039;est familier, et ils sont plus \u00e0 l&#039;aise et ouverts \u00e0 l&#039;id\u00e9e d&#039;essayer. Au d\u00e9but, j&#039;essayais de leur faire lire des romans ou des histoires, mais je me suis rendu compte que, comme ce n&#039;\u00e9tait pas afghan, ils n&#039;\u00e9taient pas \u00e0 l&#039;aise avec le vocabulaire. Cela m&#039;a permis de trouver quelque chose de plus adapt\u00e9 \u00e0 leurs besoins.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Q: <\/strong><strong>Comment se porte leur anglais jusqu&#039;\u00e0 pr\u00e9sent ?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>UNE: <\/strong>C&#039;est bien. C&#039;est un travail en cours. Mais le bon c\u00f4t\u00e9 des choses, c&#039;est qu&#039;une fois dans l&#039;oc\u00e9an, il faut nager. Je les vois apprendre des mots, surtout s&#039;ils voient quelque chose de vraiment utile. La r\u00e9p\u00e9tition est essentielle, alors parfois je reviens en arri\u00e8re et je v\u00e9rifie ce que nous avons fait pour voir si \u00e7a colle.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Q : Selon vous, quels sont les d\u00e9fis uniques auxquels sont confront\u00e9s les \u00e9tudiants r\u00e9fugi\u00e9s et comment les mentors peuvent-ils les aider \u00e0 les surmonter ?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>UNE: <\/strong>\u00catre conscient de leur dialecte et y \u00eatre \u00e0 l&#039;\u00e9coute est essentiel pour communiquer efficacement. L&#039;autre point important pour moi est de garder \u00e0 l&#039;esprit que l&#039;on ignore leur histoire ni les difficult\u00e9s qu&#039;ils traversent. Offrir un environnement bienveillant, d\u00e9tendu et s\u00e9curisant, une \u00e9nergie apaisante, est une priorit\u00e9. J&#039;essaie de refl\u00e9ter cela dans mes interactions avec eux et de faire vivre cette \u00e9nergie.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Q: <\/strong><strong>Comment pensez-vous que votre exp\u00e9rience de mentorat vous a influenc\u00e9 jusqu&#039;\u00e0 pr\u00e9sent ?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>UNE: <\/strong>Tr\u00e8s positivement. C&#039;est un moment tr\u00e8s agr\u00e9able de ma routine hebdomadaire. La veille, je r\u00e9fl\u00e9chis \u00e0 ce dont je vais discuter avec eux et au type de mat\u00e9riel que je vais leur apporter. C&#039;est vraiment une source d&#039;enthousiasme et de positivit\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Q : Qu\u2019attendez-vous avec eux au printemps ?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>UNE: <\/strong>Je suis ravi de poursuivre sur cette lanc\u00e9e, de les voir progresser et franchir des \u00e9tapes d\u00e9cisives en anglais.
