Sam Dowd ha sido mentor de Austin Partners in Education durante dos a\u00f1os y actualmente es mentor de un estudiante de 16 a\u00f1os. <\/em><\/p>\n

P: \u00bfQu\u00e9 le hizo interesarse en ser voluntario como mentor?<\/strong><\/p>\n

UNA:<\/strong> Conoc\u00ed personalmente a Wendi Gordon [Directora de Desarrollo de APIE] y, despu\u00e9s de escuchar m\u00e1s sobre su trabajo con APIE, supe que quer\u00eda involucrarme. Mi esposa y yo tuvimos la suerte de crecer en hogares que valoran la educaci\u00f3n, y sabemos que esas experiencias fueron fundamentales para ayudarnos a formarnos como adultos. Con ese esp\u00edritu, quer\u00eda tener la oportunidad de invertir en los j\u00f3venes y ayudarlos a equiparlos con los recursos que puedan necesitar para hacer avanzar su educaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n

P: \u00bfC\u00f3mo ha sido tu experiencia como mentor hasta ahora? \u00bfC\u00f3mo ha cambiado a lo largo de los a\u00f1os?<\/strong><\/p>\n

UNA: <\/strong>Mi experiencia como mentora ha sido incre\u00edble hasta ahora. Inicialmente, mi estudiante y yo nos tomamos un poco de tiempo para conocernos, pero una vez que establecimos una relaci\u00f3n y establecimos un horario constante, pudimos disfrutar de algunas experiencias m\u00e1s juntos. Ayuda que est\u00e9 extremadamente involucrado con su escuela. Mi esposa y yo hemos podido apoyarlo en partidos de f\u00fatbol y recitales de guitarra. \u00a1Ha sido fant\u00e1stico poder apoyarlo en sus diversos eventos!<\/p>\n

P: \u00bfQu\u00e9 le gusta de la mentor\u00eda? \u00bfQu\u00e9 le hace volver a\u00f1o tras a\u00f1o?<\/strong><\/p>\n

UNA: <\/strong>Abogar por mi estudiante y ser una fuente de aliento ha sido satisfactorio, ya que puedo recordar lo dif\u00edcil que fue la escuela secundaria en ocasiones. Poder celebrar sus logros y recordarle que su arduo trabajo ha ayudado a crear enormes oportunidades tambi\u00e9n ha sido impactante. Me encanta poder afirmar su intelecto y su \u00e9tica de trabajo, \u00a1y puedo ver su confianza crecer con cada temporada!<\/p>\n

UNA: <\/strong>Mi esposa y yo apoyamos a mi alumno durante uno de sus recitales de guitarra cuando sus padres no pudieron asistir, y recuerdo lo feliz que se ve\u00eda cuando nos vio despu\u00e9s de su actuaci\u00f3n. \u00a1Fue muy divertido poder decirle lo bien que lo hizo y lo orgullosos que est\u00e1bamos de su arduo trabajo!<\/p>\n

P: \u00bfQu\u00e9 impacto duradero espera tener en su aprendiz?<\/strong><\/p>\n

UNA: <\/strong>Espero que pueda apreciar mi aliento y mis comentarios durante esta temporada de su vida. A trav\u00e9s de todas nuestras interacciones, trato de desafiarlo y validarlo simult\u00e1neamente en sus actividades acad\u00e9micas y extracurriculares. Siempre trato de recordarle que esta es una temporada desafiante y ocupada en su vida, pero \u00e9l tiene estas responsabilidades y expectativas porque es incre\u00edblemente brillante.<\/p>\n

Q: <\/strong>\u00bfPor qu\u00e9 alguien deber\u00eda ser voluntario como mentor?<\/strong><\/p>\n

UNA: <\/strong>Ser voluntario a trav\u00e9s de APIE es un regalo incre\u00edble. No puedo pensar en otra organizaci\u00f3n que trabaje tan incansablemente para apoyar a los estudiantes de AISD. Cuando invierte en APIE, tiene la oportunidad de impactar la vida de un joven de una manera profunda. A veces, los j\u00f3venes necesitan que se les recuerde que sus oportunidades educativas son importantes y la tutor\u00eda es el veh\u00edculo perfecto para ello.<\/p>\n
