Austin Partners In Education (APIE) is looking for a dynamic person with a passion for education to help advance our mission of increasing community engagement in Austin ISD schools.

Main Function and Responsibility:

The Communications and Volunteer Coordinator reports to the Associate Director and is responsible for developing, coordinating, managing and implementing all communications and volunteer recruitment efforts for Austin Partners in Education.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement APIE’s communications plan for various audiences and stakeholders to foster volunteer recruitment and fundraising
  • Lead the design, development and distribution of all print and electronic collateral including, but not limited to, newsletters, volunteer recruitment brochures and flyers, e-newsletters and APIE’s website
  • In collaboration with APIE’s Operations team, develop a workflow for website maintenance and ensure content is updated regularly
  • Lead the development and management of online and social media content to engage APIE’s various audiences and stakeholders
  • Develop and coordinate APIE’s volunteer recruitment strategy
  • Build and sustain professional relationships with leaders and key supporters from area businesses, universities, faith-based, government, and community organizations
  • Develop a strong understanding of each program by visiting, participating, and collaborating with program staff; define a volunteer profile for each program and target organizations that are best fits
  • Develop and implement a volunteer and intern recruitment campaign that maps area organizations to find nearby volunteer sources
  • Attend community events to build volunteer base, including hosting tables at volunteer and intern fairs, corporate Lunch and Learns, etc.
  • Develop and implement email campaigns to meet volunteer recruitment goals
  • Manage intern and work-study recruitment
  • Utilize database to track organizations, contacts, leads, affiliations, campaigns, opportunities and dashboards
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualification Standards:


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, Business or a related field preferred

Skills / Knowledge / Ability:

  • Exceptional communication skills; verbal and written
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in the areas of collaboration, team participation, creative problem-solving, conflict resolution, group planning, and decision-making processes
  • Demonstrate knowledge and good judgment in matters dealing with community and business partners
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Strong organizational skills & flexibility a must
  • Comfortable working with minimal supervision
  • Candidate will exhibit strong initiative and the ability to adapt to changing situations  
  • Must be upbeat, positive, outgoing, personable, and able to relate well with diverse populations of people
  • Comfortable using multiple platforms to fill volunteer openings, including internet and cold calling
  • Ability to persuade potential volunteers and interns to join APIE’s efforts
  • Strong work ethic
  • Positive attitude and flexibility to meet the recruitment commitments
  • Fluent in Spanish a plus
  • Experience in public/media relations preferred
  • Knowledge of the public education system and AISD preferred
  • Valid driver’s license with access to reliable private transportation
