The purpose of the campus Partner in Education (PIE) program is to create, maintain, document, and recognize school- community partnerships that enrich and support the educational environment at your campus. Based on feedback from schools and coordinators, the PIE program is most successful when the school forms a small committee to address the various aspects of the program and responsibilities are shared among a group that is knowledgeable about the school and student needs. Click here for a suggested organizational chart of a campus PIE Committee.

The following are suggested steps to follow when developing or reorganizing a campus PIE program:
    • The Principal will appoint a school Partner in Education Coordinator and possibly a Partner in Education Committee to determine school needs and begin to strategize the Partner program.
    • The PIE Committee will develop a comprehensive assessment of school needs based on your student achievement goals that will assist the Partner in determining how their resources can align best.
    • Questions to answer at the initial PIE Committee meeting:
      • What is needed to increase student achievement?
      • What are the school's goals and objectives per the Campus Improvement Plan (CIP)?
      • What has been effective in the past, or has worked for other schools. Can it be replicated?
      • What are the costs associated with these programs?
      • What community organizations and businesses are already assisting your campus? What is successful or unsuccessful about these relationships?
      • What businesses, agencies and companies are in your neighborhood?
      • Where are your students' parents/guardians employed?
    • Partner Recruitment
      • Seek out and make initial contact with Partners or one-time donors to meet school needs. Facilitate meetings between the Partner and school.
    • Partner Management
      • Meet with Partners to discuss needs, strategies, goals, communication and evaluation systems, and complete the Partner Plan. Meet with Partner to determine how their available resources can best align with school needs, using the Partnership Plan. Ensure ongoing communication to monitor the progress of the partnership.
    • Partner Recognition
      • Actively recognizing Partners and donors to communicate your appreciation and publicly recognize Partners.
    • Partner Reporting
      • APIE annually produces a report of in-kind and monetary donations made to AISD schools, as well as all tutor, mentor, and general volunteer hours. The designated PIE coordinator is responsible for submitting donation and tutor and general volunteer data to APIE on a quarterly basis. Mentor hours are reported through a separate process by the school Mentor Coordinator.
