Austin Partners In Education Names Director, Doubles Staff
Kathrin Taylor Brewer, a proven business executive was recently named executive director of the award-winning Austin Partners in Education (APIE). APIE was founded in 1983 as Adopt-a-School by the Greater Austin Chamber and the Austin Independent School District (AISD) and recently reorganized as a non-profit organization.
Brewer, previously an engineering manager at AMD, spent most of her career in the semiconductor industry. Most recently a leading account executive with Intercall, she also served as the Director of Sales and Marketing at Thyme Technology, where she founded and led the Austin Technology Council’s NextWave Semiconductor Design Seminar Series. As an experienced, dynamic leader, Brewer will bring years of corporate executive leadership to APIE.
Throughout her career, she has been recognized and awarded for developing innovative programs and catalyzing action. She is skilled at leading teams and at developing alliances with customers and partners. Brewer has also been accomplished in identifying strategic business opportunities. In service to the community, Kathrin served on boards that included Safeplace, where she chaired the Walk for Safe Families for three years. She also served in volunteer leadership roles at Casis Elementary and Westminster Presbyterian Preschool.
Brewer is a 1984 graduate of the University of California at Berkeley and a graduate of Leadership Austin. She will head APIE, as it becomes a newly structured organization with expanded resources and an even greater commitment to improve public education. "Kathrin Brewer is exactly the CEO we need to lead Austin Partners in Education into this exciting new era," Austin School Superintendent Pat Forgione said. "Kathrin's leadership is proven, her personality is dynamic, and her vision is targeted to bringing creative new resources to Austin schools."
Brewer will head an organization that has doubled staff to eight and receives a combined investment of $500,000 annually from AISD and the Greater Austin Chamber to expand mentoring and tutoring programs for at-risk students. Last year, APIE contributed more than $22 million in in-kind, cash donations and volunteer hours to Austin schools.
